Aaron Shao is a Shanghai-based architectural photographer with over 12 years of professional experience, specializing in hospitality, architecture, and interior photography.

His work is grounded in a deep understanding of architecture and interior design. Rather than simply documenting the appearance of a building or space, Aaron seeks to understand how it was conceived and experienced, and to convey its design intent, atmosphere, and inspiration through photography. With a particular sensitivity to form, light, material, and spatial experience, his images remain faithful to the essence of each project while developing a distinct visual expression of their own.

His professional background in hospitality management brings a distinctive perspective to hotel photography, connecting spatial expression with brand communication. It enables him to approach hospitality projects with an understanding of both their architectural qualities and the atmosphere, identity, and experience they are intended to convey.

Over the years, Aaron has built extensive experience through long-term collaborations across hospitality, architecture, and interior design. Working on projects of varied scales and contexts has continually deepened his understanding of design and strengthened his ability to respond to the distinct character and communication needs of each project. This breadth of experience continues to inform the precision, depth, and sensitivity of his photographic practice.

Aaron is also a Co-Founder and Architectural Photographer at Aaron&Rex Architectural Photography, a collaborative practice established with his creative partner, Rex. Bringing together two individual perspectives and a shared understanding of architecture, the practice develops considered visual narratives that respond to the design intent, spatial character, and unique context of every project.
